RE: IBM not helping ~Paul Ektoogenjip 14.May.03 02:47 PM a Web browser Domino Server 6.0.1Windows 2000
Ed,
No I don't expect "everyone in IBM to talk about everything you offer to the market equally". But, do I expect a fair and level assessment of your product range? Yes I do. When you (not you personally Ed) make a decision WebSphere or Domino you do a fair a and level assessment of which product best fits the requirements you don't suggest the Webshpere fits all and by the way Domino will be extinct in a few years so don't go there.
I do agree that Webshere is a great product and a market leader, and deserves the praise that it gets. But to coin a phrase, IBM is not a "1 trick pony". Lotus is 1/5 of IBMs software product range. Unfortunately IBM only appears interested in its latest trick.
For every bad seed that;s sown against Domino it takes 10 good ones put it right. One snide comment from a Websphere sales man or a hint that Domino's days are numbered takes a huge effort to put right if it can be put right.
Is the message from Dr. Goyal sufficient? No I'm afraid it is not. Where is the marketing, advertising product visibility to back up those statements. Too many people believe what they read. With Websphere splashed all over the press and no mention of Lotus what are they supposed to think.
Perhaps IBM should hurry up rename Domino to "Websphere Domino" then the IBM sales team will remember its there.
